Hullo! Just wanted to share some pupply love photos with ya'll to end this busy busy week. :-) These are Rhodesian Ridgebacks :-) A breed we inherited from our late father. They were his dream dogs.
Growing up around animals, we had to be very particular about the bred we kept as most of them could possibly kill the other residents on the farm (poor chickens!). When he was younger, our father kept hunting dogs and by the time my older brother and I were born, we still got to play with German pointer puppies. But alas,as adult dogs they spent most of their time in the kennel cause they would hunt even off-duty LOL. My mom on the otherhand, at some point or another, kept a German Sheperd. Sheperds are beautiful and smart and loyal. But still the chickens were living on the edge.
And then came these wonderful ridgebacks :-) Although they too were originally bred in South Africa to hunt lions, ours have grown up to not be agressive to the poultry or other potential farm prey. Once every few years, we will get one whose hunting instincts are alive and well and we have to let it get adopted. But otherwise, our family dogs have been ridgebacks for the past 15 years or so and it will be very strange not to see a pack of them SLEEPING around our home :-)
Lately we have not had that many puppies, and in this litter only 2 survived :-( We really have to upgrade our breeding line as these are still our original line. One of these days, I am sure the right guy will come LOL.
So, eventhough I have been loving a dane named Hunter of late, Rhodesian Ridgebacks will always hold something dear to me. It is a sweet reminder of our father and the life we shared with him.
Peace. Love. Dream. Remember.
